How to Replace a Cone Crusher Concave (Bowl Liner)

Step 1: Preparation & Safety

 

Consult the Manual Always start by reviewing the manufacturers instructions for your specific cone crusher model.

 

Wear PPE Gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection are a must.

 

Lockout/Tagout De-energize the machine and lock controls to prevent accidental startup.

 

Declutter the Area Clear debris and obstacles for safe and efficient access.

 

Step 2: Remove the Old Concave & Mantle

 

Remove the feed plate from the top.

 

Loosen or cut off the locking ring/nutusing a torch ring if its seizedthen unscrew it.

 

Use a crane or hoist to carefully lift the mantle off the crusher head.

Chip away old backing materials (e.g. epoxy) from both the head and concave.

 

Remove the concave using a lifting device or specialized tool.

 

Step 3: Inspect & Prep the Crusher

 

Surface Inspection Check for wear, damage, or debris on seating surfaces.

 

Component Inspection Assess whether the mantle needs replacement.

 

Clean Thoroughly Ensure all surfaces are clean and ready for new components.

 

Step 4: Install the New Concave (and Mantle, if removed)

 

Mix the recommended backing material (epoxy or similar) per manufacturer's guidance.

 

 

Position the new concave correctly on the crusher head.

 

Pour backing material between the concave and head, ensuring proper flow and fill.

 

If removed, reinstall the mantle and tighten the locking nut to the specified torque.

 

Reattach the feed plate and reset any liner-change reminders.

 

Step 5: Startup & Monitor

 

Restart the crusher and check the ClosedSide Setting (CSS) to ensure desired product size.

 

Closely monitor early performancelisten for unusual sounds, observe vibrations, and verify proper feeding.
